Now no blacksmith could be found in all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said “Otherwise the Hebrews will make swords or spears.” (1 Samuel 13:19)

So all Israel went down to the Philistines, each to sharpen his plowshares, the mattocks, the forks, and the axes, and to fix the hoes. (1 Samuel 13:20)

The charge was two-thirds of a shekel for the plowshares, the mattocks, the forks, and the axes, and to fix the hoes. (1 Samuel 13:21)

So it came about on the day of battle that neither sword nor spear was found in the hands of any of the people who were with Saul and Jonathan, but they were found with Saul and his son Jonathan.” (1 Samuel 13:22)

There were few weapons in Israel because the Philistines made sure they could not be manufactured. The Hebrews even had to travel to the Philistines just to have their farm tools sharpened.

So too do Christians have to travel into the foreign belief system of Alcoholics Anonymous. We have been led to believe that we have no weapons of our own to battle addiction. We have been taught that we need the A.A. Big Book and the 12 Steps more than we need the Bible.

We have been taught we cannot help our own.

This is simply not so. For not only has Christ provided the way out (He is the way out!), He does not want us having anything to do with a belief system that denies Him as the One True God. (Gal 1:8-9, 2 Corinthians 6:14-17)
